Bike Pooling in Bangalore: Beat ORR and Whitefield Traffic Together

Anyone who has sat in a cab on the Outer Ring Road at 9 am knows why so many people in Bengaluru ride to work. A two-wheeler gets through where a car waits. But look around at any signal near Marathahalli or Silk Board: nearly every bike and scooter has an empty pillion seat.

Bike pooling puts that seat to use.

What bike pooling in Bangalore looks like

A rider who already goes to a tech park every day offers the pillion seat on that same route. Someone heading the same way books it and pays a share of the petrol. No extra trip is made.

The routes where it works best are the ones lots of people ride at the same hour:

  • HSR Layout, BTM and Koramangala to Electronic City along Hosur Road.
  • Marathahalli, Bellandur and Sarjapur Road to the ORR tech parks. Short distances that take a long time by car.
  • KR Puram and Indiranagar to Whitefield.
  • Hebbal and Yelahanka to Manyata Tech Park.

Namma Metro now reaches Whitefield and Electronic City, but many campuses are still a ride away from the nearest station. A bike pool covers that last stretch, or the whole trip.

What it costs

The rider sets a share of the petrol, and you see it before you book. An example:

  • A 20 km round trip on a 110cc scooter uses about 0.44 litres. Owners of popular scooters report around 45–47 km a litre in city traffic, and commuter motorcycles often do better.
  • With petrol in Bengaluru at ₹111.68 a litre, that is about ₹50 a day.
  • Over 22 working days, ₹1,100 a month.
  • Shared between rider and pillion, ₹550 each.

A longer ride costs more, and saves more when two people share it.

Riding safely

Indian law requires a helmet for both rider and pillion. Riders on ZoinZo say whether they carry a spare, so you know before you book.

You can see the rider's name, photo, vehicle and ratings, and chat in the app before the first ride. Women can choose Pink Rides, which only women can offer and only women can book.

Tips for a smooth bike pool in Bangalore

  • Meet at a point on the rider's route, such as a Metro station exit or a bus stop on the main road.
  • Carry a rain jacket. Bengaluru's evening showers arrive with little warning, especially from June to October.
  • Bring your own helmet if you can. It fits better, and the ride never depends on a spare.
  • Agree the leaving time the night before. Ten minutes late at pickup can mean thirty more in ORR traffic.

Already riding to work? Offer your seat

If you ride from HSR Layout, Marathahalli or Hebbal to a tech park every day, your pillion seat can pay for part of your petrol. Post the route once on ZoinZo, set your leaving time and choose to repeat it every weekday. You see each person's profile and ratings before you accept.

Questions people ask

ZoinZo

answers commuters' questions

Is bike pooling faster than a cab in Bangalore?

On congested stretches like the ORR and Hosur Road, a two-wheeler usually gets through traffic faster than a car, which is why so many commuters ride.

How much does a pillion seat cost in Bengaluru?

The rider sets a share of the petrol, shown before you book. For a 20 km round trip it is about ₹550 a month each, as in the example above.

Do I need my own helmet?

Some riders carry a spare and say so on the ride. If they don't, bring your own. Riding pillion without a helmet is against the law.
